PakTurk International Schools & Colleges Islamabad organized “One Day Workshop” about preparation of ISMO (Inter Schools Mathematics Olympiads) for the teachers of twin cities, on 14th January 2012 in the Auditorium of its main campus, Chak Shehzad Islamabad. Around one hundred Mathematics teachers from different schools participated in the program.
The 7th ISMO 2012 will be held on Sunday the 29th January 2012.
The program started with the name of Allah Almighty and the recitation of the Holy Quran. Mr. Nabi TOSUN recited the verses of the Holy Quran. ISMO history was highlighted through a short but interesting presentation
Mr. Ebubekir HASPOLAT, the principal PakTurk International Schools & Colleges Main Branch Islamabad welcomed the participants. He highlighted the aims of establishing PAKTURK schools by saying that our students should be developed to think on global scale while being profoundly dedicated to the traditions and values that make them the proud citizens of their country; well acquainted with the environment they live in and capable of forming individual and group relationship to cope with the ongoing and forthcoming challenges locally and globally .He highlighted the significance of Olympiads on national and international level. It is believed that in the coming years ISMO will be developed as an international Olympiad.He also highlighted the main features of ISMO; its way of conducting, syllanus, method of asking questions, rules and regulations, mode of registration, prizes, venue, checking answer-sheets etc.
Later Mr. Bayrem URKMEZ, Head of Mathematics Department, Mr. Serdal ARSLAN & Omer BAKTIR, the Mathematics lecturers conducted workshop about the way of preparing students for ISMO. They solved some of the sample questions on smart board. These questions were based on the topics, given in ISMO syllabus to the students and teachers. They also chose some Non routine questions for the demonstration. Along with solving the question they also used different techniques and showed some Mathematics related funny clips to solve sums.
In the last segment of the program, the participating teachers asked several questions about ISMO and they were entertained by the Principal and Mathematics Department. The participating teachers appreciated the way of conducting the workshop as well as ISMO.
This workshop will prove to be fruitful for the Mathematics teachers and would help them to prepare their students for this unique competition.
